New York City Casinos

A casino (or gaming house) is an establishment for certain types of gambling. Casinos are most commonly associated with hotels, but also can be found in other types of buildings such as cruise ships and other tourist attractions. Most casinos have high levels of security and are heavily regulated. In the United States, casinos are governed by state law and may operate either as a standalone business or in conjunction with a hotel.

Most casino games involve some element of chance, but there are a number that have a significant skill component as well. Players who possess sufficient skills to eliminate the inherent long-term disadvantage of a particular game, as measured by its mathematically determined odds, are said to have an advantage over other players and are known as “advantage players”. In some games, such as blackjack or baccarat, the house takes a commission from player bets, a sum known as the vigorish. In other games, such as poker, the house collects a percentage of player bets, a sum called the rake.

New York City is home to two casinos, both of which feature a variety of table games and slots. Jake’s 58 is located in Queens and offers casino gambling as well as a full-service restaurant and grab-and-go food options. The racino Empire City is in Yonkers and features both traditional casino gaming as well as horse race betting. Both offer a variety of table games, poker, slots, roulette and keno as well as the TwinSpires Sportsbook.
